J. Kent Sweezey
Kent, now a graded stakes winning trainer, grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, learning all aspects of the business at Darby Dan Farm where his dad was general manager. His parents started Timber Town Farm and Kent managed mares and foals and yearling preparation. He was first drawn to the track as an assistant to Christophe Clement at Peyton Park, Florida. After a move west as Eoin Harty’s assistant, Kent returned to the east coast as an assistant to Jimmy Jerkins. At Jerkins’ barn, Kent gained experience with Grade I winners such as Effinex, VE Day, and Wicked Strong. Swezey began training on his own in 2017. He trains two divisions, one at Palm Meadows, the satellite training facility of Gulfstream Park and the other at Monmouth Park, New Jersey. Kent is ranked in the top ten trainers at both places with his career earnings well over 5 million dollars.
